Located in the scenic Colorado Rocky Mountains, Telluride is a former gold and silver mining town that is the county seat of San Miguel County, Colorado.  Founded in 1878, Telluride is also the most populated town in the county. Today, Telluride is more well-known for its role as a ski town, while its roots are seen in the many historic mining buildings that still stand in the area.

World-class skiing is available at the nearby Telluride Ski Resort, and some of the most well-known festivals are held in the area. The beautiful scenery adds to the magical resort getaway atmosphere, and Telluride is sure to charm all who visit and live in the area. 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Telluride is home to several great restaurants and shopping destinations. Many of them can be found along the main business street, West Colorado Avenue. The following are some of the best options in the area. If you’re looking for a bite to eat in Telluride, one of the most popular restaurants in the area is The National, which offers a menu full of delicious seafood and other high-quality dishes with locally sourced ingredients served in an upscale setting. Another well-loved option is the Chop House Restaurant at New Sheridan, a steakhouse located within the historic New Sheridan Hotel that serves a great selection of mountain-sourced game, steaks, and seafood dishes. Also available in the area is 221 South Oak, a seasonally available New American restaurant with an extensive wine list. When looking for cool places to shop, there are several options to choose from. One local favorite for clothing is Telluride Trappings & Toggery, which sells a large variety of brands, including Tommy Bahama, Levi, and Columbia, among many more. Another great place to check out is Telluride Sports – Main Street, a ski shop that offers rentals for everything from bikes to snow gear. For women’s clothing, try going to Down To Earth, a charming boutique with clothing, accessories, jewelry, and beauty products.

There are many great opportunities for activities in Telluride. Whether you want to spend time at the park or explore a local event, there is something fun for everyone in Telluride. There are several options for festivals and events. For those that love bluegrass and other genres of music, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival is a great choice. Hosted by Planet Bluegrass every summer, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival is the best place to hear live music and attend music workshops. Telluride Film Festival is the perfect place for film enthusiasts to see some of the best films the world has to offer, held every Labor Day weekend. Blues and Brews is an annual festival that celebrates great music and craft beer.  There are also many parks to visit in the area. One of the most popular parks is the Town Park, which has many spaces for various activities, including camping, swimming, ice skating, sports, and much more. The surrounding area has several great activities as well, such as the Bear Creek Trail and the Firecracker Hill sledding hill. Elks Park is a great place to go for concerts and free film screenings.
